"Liliana Ruiz is a spectacular flamenco dancer and her flamenco dancing would be worth the price of admission all by itself. She leads (and choreographs) a group of six dancers who introduce the action and appear frequently  throughout, commenting on the proceedings."

Maestro Spalding and his 22 piece orchestra includes a unique makeup of  strings and five virtuoso percussionists performing on over 40 instruments. Add to that the amazing footwork, the clatter of the  castanets and the brilliant costumes of Liliana Ruiz, and we have an  exciting and unique interpretation of Bizet’s “Carmen” as arranged by Russian composer Rodin Shchedrin – his most played and most famous work.

 Flamenco Dancer Liliana Ruiz performs an energetic flamenco dance, Por Alegrias, to live accompaniment provided by vocalist La Conja and guitarist Andreas Arnold. In a flared polka dot dress and heels, Ruiz gathers the audience, first with her fingers, then her arms, elbows and shoulders.  She plays in between the musical phrasing, arms swiping through the  traditional llamada or call then passing into a quick exchange of balls and heels, first slowly, then double time. Her feet vibrate off  of the floor and it’s easy to see why she is such a favorite with the  ensemble.
